2024 in review

As we trekked along the peak of Mount Wilson on January 1st, we took time to reflect on the ups and downs 2024 has brought us.

Mid Century Modern ’s “Stolen Moments” debut peaked with a number of charts including NACC Top 200 (#184), NACC Top Hip Hop (#7), NACC Top Hip Hop ADDS (#1), RapAttackLives (#1), Urban Influencer Rap Charts (#7) and made KEXP’s “Song of the Day”.

206 Zulu celebrated its milestone 20th anniversary and hosted some of the most memorable programs to date. We’ve received an exceptional amount of press this year, with The Seattle Times feature article making the cover story. In June, we received a Full Circle award for our contributions to the dance community.

Washington Hall was bustling all year, with over 100 events and countless programs. Some of the most memorable events include Red Bull Lords of the Floor, Dance For Falasteen, Seattle Black Film Festival, Seattle Art Book Fair, and Kassa Overall.

The year was a flurry of touring, performances, workshops and speaking gigs all around the country. We witnessed history as Breaking entered the Olympics in Paris, and had a chance to travel all around Europe in the month of August.

2024 marked our first time attending the Grammys, and as a voting member I participated in a number of ways, from Grammy U music mentorship program to Music Advocacy Day, where I was able to connect with Rep. Jimmy Gomez and advocate for several bills on the table that help make the music industry more just and equitable.

One of the most significant changes was my move to Los Angeles. With all the traveling, I’m still acclimating to the fact, and am just so overwhelmed by the amount of love and support the LA underground has shown me in this short time. I’ve met some truly amazing people and am really excited about the music that we’ve been working on in recent months.

As 2024 came to a close, my final term with 4Culture concluded. On the very last day of my term, we voted to approve Doors Open, a groundbreaking program that will fund 700 organizations with $100M next year, and a similar trajectory in years to come.

2024 has been challenging to say the least, but in retrospect, there is much to be thankful for. To all my dear friends, comrades and loved ones, thank you for rocking with me. 2025 is going to be unbearably rough in so many ways, but I am truly thankful to be in community with you and know that we are in this together.
