King Khazm’s last term with 4Culture
Today is bittersweet as I completed my last term as a board member of 4Culture. It’s been a truly remarkable experience working with such an incredible team of folks, providing funding and resources to King County’s arts and cultural sector.
In the culmination of my service, we saw the development, implementation, and today, voted to approve the first round of Open Doors grant recipients, providing funds to nearly 800 organizations between the Sustained Support and Cultural Facilities programs! (Press release coming soon)
These last six years have been absolutely amazing, and I’m so privileged to be in service alongside so many skilled and dedicated staff, committee and board members.
We give thanks to King County Executive and Council for their leadership, particularly Councilmembers Balducci and Zahilay for their co-sponsorship of the plan. We give thanks to our fearless leader Brian Carter, Manny Cawaling and Inspire Washington and countless others who have contributed to making this a reality.
In these deeply trying times, it’s beyond gratifying to know that arts and culture is being supported in such unprecedented and impactful ways that will transpire to our current and future generations of artists, culture bearers, preservationists and organizations!!

Yesterday’s Hip Hop Climate Conference was an insightful and educational experience, a day filled with presentations, panel discussions, music and exhibitions from the likes of Seattle Mayor Bruce A. Harrell, Sheley Secrest, Sa-Roc, Sol Messiahh, Daude Abe, Philadelphia Freeway, Anthony-Paul Diaz (Superintendent/Director, Seattle Parks and Recreation), Sarah Doherty (Associate Professor, Atmospheric Sciences, University of Washington), Dargan Frierson (Associate Professor, Atmospheric and Climate Science, University of Washington), Dr. Stephen Tyson, Keith Tucker, Easy AD Cold Crush Brothers, Dr. Gilda Sheppard, Albert Hughes, Vin Rock (Naughty By Nature) and many more.
